This handsome fellow was fluttering around my garden yesterday. He’s a Monarch Butterfly and you can read all about his lifestyle here if you’re so inclined.
There has been a decline in the monarch butterflies as a whole this year for some inexplicable reason, some say pesticides and some say loss of habitat. Regardless, they’re beautiful and one of the joys of the garden, so this winter when you’re planning your seed and plant purchases for spring, give a thought to a few plants that attract butterflies: milkweed (apparently the only thing Monarch larvae will eat), dill, butterfly bush, verbena, monarda, agastache etc. They all look great in your garden and you’ll be rewarded next summer with beautiful garden visitors.
I hope you have an amazing weekend and thanks for reading EG!
