I know everyone has their minds fixated on all the beautiful foliage around them but I wanted to send out a quick post about October Bloomers that are still in their prime and adding an amazing layer to the color spectacular going on during this season. There are three perennials in particular I’d like to share:
Japanese anemone: these come in a variety of colors but I’m partial to white at this time of year. It’s a beautiful contrast against the reds, browns and yellows of autumn. It’s a reliable bloomer and makes an amazing cut flower.
Montauk Daisies: Such a great plant and literally alive with bees at this point in the season. They propagate very easily so find a friend and take some cuttings (come on over!). The only negative I can say is that on occasion they’ve bloomed so late I’ve lost them to an early frost.
Clematis paniculata, or Autumn Blooming Clematis: I’ve mentioned this before but it just keeps going. Truly a delight at this late point in the flower garden and low maintenance as long as it has room to spread.
So those are my three stars… If you have them growing already, enjoy! If not I hope you can find some space in your garden for them.
Thanks as always and let me know what you have blooming in your garden now…
