My Latest Project

Because I need more to do around the house & garden, I thought I’d add another layer with my latest project…

My Latest Project - the COOP

The COOP has arrived!  (It actually arrived a couple weeks back but this has been my first opportunity to post about it).  Unfortunately the chickens weren’t with it but that will hopefully be remedied shortly.  My husband is going to be building the run that will surround the coop and it seems like we need to build a miniature Fort Knox to protect my feathered friends.  The list of predators I currently have on or running through my property includes: an active fox den (the kits are really, really cute!), coyote packs, raccoons, the odd bear and two juvenile male hawks that seem to call us home.  I have not seen anything from the weasel family yet but ya never know!  The season is young!

I’ll post photos as the run goes in, but I thought I’d show the delivery process – it ways a ton and the gentleman who built it placed it on his own…

Impressive, no?  It’s a fabulous structure.  Insulated, pre-wired and very well thought out.  I was even able to add a door on a timer so I don’t have to run down and let them out at the crack of dawn.  I had been looking for a couple years now for a great coop and this fit the bill in every way.  And it was delivered for free within a certain radius of his home.  He also raises some really stunning birds if you’re in the market.  Margitas Rare Poultry Breeds.

So I’ll keep posting as chicken events unfold.  If any of you out there have chickens of your own, I’m never one to pass up advice!  Please let me know about your experiences as well.

And thanks as always for reading EG!

  1. This is beyond AWESOME! I can’t wait to hear of your adventures raising chickens. And the ensuing egg recipes, I’m sure. I need to be your neighbor!
