I know I’ve written about this before, but just having had a conversation with someone who is saving seeds for the first time has sparked me to re-blog this topic. You do not have to ferment to save your seeds! It doesn’t need to be that difficult.
Pick a favorite tomato that is free of any disease. Grab a paper towel and schmeer the seeds and mush (technical term) across the towel. Let them dry for a bit someplace that’s not damp and then pop them into a ziplock bag and label. That’s it. You can even do this with organic tomatoes from the grocery store and farmstand.
I don’t know why everyone tries to make seed saving such a crazy mystery. They are seeds, their ultimate destiny is to sprout. Keep them dry and you’re good. The moral of this story is make it easy for yourself. I guarantee they will germinate this spring. Seriously! Now go forth and gather those seeds without fear!!!!
And have a great weekend too while you’re at it!
