I’m on an organizational kick at home and while tackling our library this week, I came across an old book from my Grandmother that has everything you needed to know about Home Keeping Circa 1894. Since she was born in 1898 it must have been my Great Grandmother’s and was passed along. Best guess anyway.
Comprehensive, no? It made for fun browsing and slowed my organizational efforts down by at least a good hour.
It had tons of recipes, some common today and some a bit crazy. There was also a page on butchering animals but I skipped that illustration since I know I have vegetarian readers (XOXO)…
I take serious exception to a couple of their tips on this page, but it does partly read like something out of The Rules.
And if anyone is worried about mosquito borne diseases, this repellent recipe might actually work.
And they also covered fashion and beauty!
The only major omission I can see in this book is a section on cocktails, or even better yet how to build your own distillery! I’m guessing the authors could have used a stiff drink or two. It might have alleviated #4 from the advice above on scowling…
